Demonstration by David DeGroot

Juniper

The results are rough, but refinement can be done later.

This will be a good jin, but it is too straight. I deliberately did NOT carve a curve into the stem (even though I could have done so) because as the wood dries and checks, it will be obvious that the carved jin is not the natural shape of the wood. This has been made thin enough to be flexible.

Applying heat and force will give the desired shape to both the overall form of the jin and to the grain of the wood.

The Jin has been formed into the desired shape!

With the jin roughed out, the wiring begins. I cut off as many brances as possible, but there is still a lot to do.
