Even with
PSBA President Ken Wassum's excellent assistance, 2+ hours will
not be enough time to finish this tree!
Wiring technique
seems to be the most elusive skill, even for those who have been
practicing bonsai for many years, so a little explanation is
in order.
It's usually
best to bend the branch by bending the wire, not vice-versa.
Giving a
little twist while bending helps distribute the stress and protects
against breakage, while properly orienting the foliage.
Some people never
shut up.
The tree
has a long way to go before even its initial styling has been
realized, but time's up -- and the winner is an enthusiastic
new member who just happens to be an arborist, so future prospects
look bright!
