PSBA Guest Artist Jonas Dupuich April 24th, 2023

Jonas Dupuich will be the PSBA Guest artist for the April 24th 2023 General meeting.

“Bonsai Evaluation” will be the topic of this interactive program. Designed to improve the understanding of the desired, species specific attributes in Bonsai.

Improving the understanding of how bonsai are judged will help you understand show judging as well as what look for or avoid when purchasing material or a finished tree, you won’t want to miss it.

Jonas’s trees have been selected for display at the US National Bonsai Exhibition, the Artisans Cup, and the Pacific Bonsai Expo. Jonas grows a variety of species and specializes in developing Japanese black pine from seed.

In his blog “Bonsai Tonight” Jonas writes.

“I got my start in bonsai over twenty years ago when I met Boon Manakitivipart while working at my family’s nursery. After seeing a tree he had styled – a neglected black pine – I was hooked.”

“That experience kicked off more than two decades of study with Boon. During that time, I became a founding member of his club, Bay Island Bonsai, and I started this website – the Bonsai Tonight Blog.”

In 2015, my hobby became my profession. I now teach classes, work on trees, and run a small bonsai business full-time.”

“My primary aim in bonsai is the same now as it was more than twenty years ago: to help as many people as possible appreciate beautiful bonsai.”

Jonas Dupuich runs a Northern California bonsai nursery where he teaches and writes about bonsai. He is the author of The Little Book of Bonsai and the Bonsai Tonight blog, and co-founder of the Pacific Bonsai Expo. Learn more at bonsaitonight.com.

In his return visit to the Puget Sound Bonsai Association Jonas will focus his interactive program on “Bonsai Evaluation”, you won’t want to miss it.
